"ACM Volunteers!! 10-16-2007
Please mark your monthly calendars, EACH Wednesday evening from 7 to 9,
at the ACM hangar, Volunteers Night, A lot has happened and more is in
the works, and we need your help!! ============================================================================
ACM volunteer night report on 9-19-07 To night ACM volunteers worked on an airplane! Eight volunteers showed up and some future plans were discussed regarding a "Texas Hold'em" fund raiser, VFW has been booked, watch for more info on the ACM web page, www.aircombatmuseum.org. Distance between hangars was measured to insure even the largest WWII bombers from The Collings Foundation can safely pass to park on the ramp in front of the ACM hangar. Polo's, T's, and patches and jackets and hats are being checked on for the ACM to have on sale in the welcome area of the hangar. A cloth patch will be designed and made for each of the vintage aircraft on display. Revenue and profits will go toward operation costs of the ACM. Frank again brought liquid refreshments for anyone wanting relief. Three suggested projects were offered with those present choosing to pull the AT-11 out of its hangar and get it ready for a run up check in the near future. There will be NO Volunteer night next week, that's the 25th of Sept. Tony, Mike and Gene will be out of town. However, the following Wednesday, the October 3rd all volunteers are encouraged to show up.
============================================================================ ACM volunteer night report on 9-12-07 A GREAT night at the ACM!! 11 volunteers were present at 7 p.m. A couple more came a little later. A new family, from Taylorville, the mother and 3 children were excited about the opportunity to help make a jet fighter plane sparkle. After a brief overview/update on current and future activities and programs, we all went over to the AT-11 hangar and spent a few minutes checking it out. Chuck Midyett volunteer to pilot the AT-11. In the meantime hopefully during Wednesdays' volunteer night Chuck will do engine run ups on the AT-11, and eventually take volunteers for short hops around the city. Mike Cadwell, offered to be Plane Captain for the AT-11 to oversee its upkeep and continued ready state. Volunteers that desire to be "crew members" on the AT-11, should talk with Mike at volunteer night. Crew make up, (depending on the particular aircraft) consist of pilot, copilot, navigator, gunner and bombardier, mechanic, Plane Captain and crew members names will be painted on the aircraft. Taking ACM aircraft to supporting events around the country is also a way to generate revenue for the ACM. Volunteers removed the old soda machine to get ready for a new piece of equipment to keep soda, drinking water and other items that need to be kept cold. Volunteers also relocated the nuts and bolts storage cabinet for Tony. Now that all of the furniture has been relocated volunteers can work on getting the simulator in shape for visitors. Gregg took pictures of volunteers at activities. Thanks to Frank for bringing some liquid refreshments.
Gene is checking into location for a fund raiser to be held ASAP. Discussion was shared about the need for retail good to generate a steady revenue source. ACM's first membership was presented to Frank Vogel. Frank's membership status with the ACM is officially now a MAJOR. Not only is Frank the first member for the ACM, frank will receive a jacket patch of his choice, a ride in the aircraft of his choice, and unlimited attendance to all ACM activities, and events, thank you Frank. See you next week! ============================================================================ 08-05-2007 ACM Volunteer Report Last night there were 6 people, Nick and Susan Cody, Frank Vogel, Tony, Mike and Gene. All of the furniture has been moved, cleaned and re-located to the new, welcome/greeters center. It looks good, clean, and much more like a museum welcome center should.
Some volunteers did a little housekeeping, and all helped moved heavy furniture. All volunteer meeting next week. The "coordinators" (Theresa, Katy, and Frank) should be present so you know who they when they contact you. ACM's first "member" is Frank Vogel. (We will share next week, what makes a "member" and the benefits.) Museum officers are working on the ACM building and will give you update. Now that hangar space is available, the AT-11 should be getting moved over and volunteers can begin working on this WWII vintage aircraft. We will be talking about local revenue generating events to be planned. Your We need your help in these events, i.e. wed nite. ============================================================================ First Volunteer night at ACM, August 29th, '07 A NEW welcome center at the ACM! 10 volunteers moved first aircraft, then artifacts, cleaned, scrubbed the floor and moved 12 large, heavy display cases from the rear side of the hangar to a very presentable greeter/visitor area at the entrance door. Tony was back in town after several days of special guard duty in another state, and guided volunteers in the re-location of furniture. Long time ACM volunteer Terry Blome, pilot owner, builder, and airplane builder, brought two furniture dollies which were invaluable in moving the display cases, thank you Terry. Next Wednesday, we will move the stainless steel cases that are used to display donated model aircraft. This should be a less physical task. We can be proud of guests visiting the ACM now, with the well done visitor center. Stop out this week and stick your head in the door to check it out. Mike and Kathlene, got carry out and refreshments for all. Thursday, will be
the first day for ACM having a "Interpretive
Tour Guide" volunteer on duty. Jim Clark will at this important
post each thursday a.m. when his wife also does volunteer duty at a local
church. Jim has reviewed, studied and prepared himself for ACM visitors
by studying the "briefs" on each of the 9 aircraft at the museum.
More volunteers are needed to fill other times (a.m. and p.m.) during
the week. Please contact Katy Spindell to get scheduled and in serviced. |
